Subject: State and Regional Transportation Plans Comment Periods Open
Virginia has opened its “2035 Surface Transportation Plan” for public comment.
As described by the Virginia Bike Federation:
The 2035 Virginia Surface Transportation Plan represents the first time VDOT and
DRPT have organized multimodal proposals in a single plan.
The plan provides information for potential long-term project development and
investment based on the goals identified in VTrans2035, Virginia’s statewide
multimodal transportation policy plan. The draft plan includes possible
improvements to transit, rail, freight, highway and intelligent transportation
systems. Transportation needs identified in the plan are used to help determine
highway projects for the Six-Year Improvement Plan.
See
http://www.vabike.org/2035-surface-transportation-plan-available-for-public-comment/).
The plan itself can be found at http://www.vtrans.org/2035_surface_plan.asp.
Comments are due July 30.
Also, Bruce Wright (FABB, WABA) points out that the 2010 Regional Bicycle and
Pedestrian Plan is undergoing some much needed revisions:
This Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan for the National Capital Region identifies the
capital improvements, studies, actions, and strategies that the region proposes
to carry out by 2035 for major bicycle and pedestrian facilities. This plan is
an update to the 2006 Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan for the National Capital
Region, which was the first all-new regional plan specifically for bicycle
facilities since 1995, and the first-ever regional pedestrian facilities plan.
The Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan for the National Capital Region is intended to
be advisory to the CLRP <http://www.mwcog.org/clrp/> and TIP, and to stand as a
resource for planners and the public. In contrast to the CLRP, the Bicycle and
Pedestrian Plan includes both funded and unfunded projects – projects in this
plan may not yet have funding identified to support their implementation.
See http://fabb-bikes.blogspot.com/2010/07/draft-2010-regional-bicycle-and.html
for more.
The plan draft can be found at
http://www.mwcog.org/committee/committee/blog/details.asp?committee_id=103&blog_id=2.
Bruce urges leaving comments at that site, but I’ll be looking into whether
there’s a more formal public comment process.
Cheers,
Mark
