Safety in numbers: more cyclists = fewer injuries

Hi All,

There is an interesting post at Streetsblog about the
"safety in numbers" effect.  Normally it is found that 
as cycling rates increase, collision rates decrease.
The interpretation is that motorists drive more safely 
when they see cyclists more often.

However, in NYC they are finding that the _number_ of 
injuries is decreasing (not just the per-cyclist rate):
