Hi Everyone- 

You may have already received e-mails via BikeWalk Alexandria or the Local Motion eNews lists, but I wanted to be sure to follow up and personally invite you to our Pedestrian and Bicycle Citizens Group meeting on Monday, January 11 at 7 pm at the Durant Center (1605 Cameron Street). 

If you haven't attended one of these meetings before, this will be a good one. 

We will be joined by John Komoroske, chairman of the Planning Commission, and Jayme Blakesley, vice-chair of the Transportation Commission. In Alexandria, the Planning and Transportation commissions have a very significant impact on policies, plans and funding for pedestrian and bicycle projects. Both John and Jayme are extremely knowledgeable about transportation/land use issues and they're avid users of our sidewalks, transit systems and trails. I'll let them tell you more on Monday and you'll learn why Alexandria is fortunate to have them in such key roles. 

We will also review 2009 and look ahead at key projects for 2010. I attached a DRAFT version of our annual "year in review." If you have suggestions or changes, please bring them Monday and we'll make them before we put the final version on-line. 

Some important projects and a few of our key goals for 2010 include: 
	1. Begin construction on Eisenhower Avenue Underpass 
	2. Complete final design and begin construction process for Holmes Run/Chambliss Crossing 
	3. Safe Routes to School-- continue ACPS programs, seek new funds and begin construction 
	4. King/Beauregard Intersection and Eisenhower Avenue Complete Street projects 
	5. Trail Rehabilitation/Safety -- Mount Vernon Trail 
	6. Bicycle Parking and Bike Racks-on-Buses effort
Our Ped-Bike Group meets every two months and we typically review existing and new projects with plenty of time for input from attendees. Please feel free to use this meeting to call attention to issues that are important to you or your neighborhood! If you have specific questions that may require special information, please feel free to e-mail me prior to the meeting so I can give you good answers.
