Special Public Event: Update on Transportation Impacts of BRAC in the National Capital Region
6:00-8:00 p.m. January 14, 2010
Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments – 1st Floor Training Center , 777 North Capitol St., NE , Washington DC 20002
The Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) of the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB) will be holding a session at their meeting on the evening of January 14 featuring experts on the transportation needs and impacts of facilities affected by the latest round of Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC).
The CAC continues to be interested in learning how the region's transportation implementing agencies are working with the federal government to plan for BRAC impacts. As BRAC-related transportation projects are working their way into regional plans, questions remain about funding sources and whether or not sufficient transportation improvements can be made before employment shifts happen so that gridlock is not the short-term result.
Topics will include: demographic shifts expected as a result of BRAC; cooperation between federal, state, and local levels on BRAC transportation impacts; the process for BRAC-related transportation project prioritization and implementation; and opportunities for public input in BRAC-related projects.
Speakers will include representatives from the Maryland Department of Transportation, the Virginia Department of Transportation, and the federal government. For more information, contact Darren Smith at dsmith at mwcog.org.
