[somewhat OT] proposed Mirant settlement

FYI, the owners of the Mirant coal-fired power plant on
the river on the north side of Old Town have proposed a 
settlement with the City. From what I've heard and briefly
skimmed, it looks like the basic offer is that if Mirant
spends $34 million on pollution controls (however the
City wants them to?), the City would endorse Mirant's plan
to merge its smokestacks and burn more coal.

A commission established by City Council will review the 
deal on Monday, and residents are invited to participate.

City Council is expected to decide on the offer Tuesday night.
