Dear Supporter,

Every year, hundreds of law enforcement officers are killed in the line of duty while serving and protecting their communities. During the year 2007, over 180 officers paid this ultimate sacrifice. These heroes can never be returned to their family and friends, but we as a profession and a nation, can ensure that they are never forgotten. The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial (NLEOM), located in Washington, D.C., permanently honors the sacrifice made by these men and women by placing their names on the memorial wall.

In 1997, a group of 18 law enforcement officers rode their bikes from New Jersey to the NLEOM in Washington, D.C. in order to raise public awareness of duty related deaths and raise money for the Memorial. Through the efforts of these officers, the Police Unity Tour was created and continues to grow in participation and support each year.

On May 9, 2008, approximately 40 officers from the Alexandria and Fairfax County will join with over 350 members of the Police Unity Tour to begin a 300 mile, four day ride from Jersey City, NJ to Washington, D.C. The funds raised by federal, state, and local officers will be donated to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

Each rider that participates in the Police Unity Tour rides for a specific officer. We wear a bracelet with that officer's name and "end of watch" date. As we ride, we each share the story of the name on our bracelet, so that those who have died will never be forgotten. The ride is difficult, emotional, inspiring, and to this date, one of the best experiences I have had as a police officer.

As an Alexandria Police Officer, I am proud to be able to help the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial with this monumental task. With your help the Police Unity Tour will continue to be the largest single supporter of this worthy cause.

Please become a sponsor of the Police Unity Tour by sending in a pledge on your company's behalf. Donations made to the Police Unity Tour are fully deductible (tax identification #22-3530541). The Police Unity Tour is a nonprofit organization under section 501c (3) of the Internal Revenue code, therefore, donations are fully tax deductible. I have attached a rider sponsor form for your convenience.

On behalf of the entire law enforcement community, I would like to thank you for your continued support and consideration of sponsorship.
