Braddock Metro Neighborhood Plan

I have attended some of these meetings in the past, and there is a very dedicated group that is trying to make sure transit is not put on Route 1, especially in the 5 or six residential blocks in the heart of Old Town. I have always been a strong believer that transit and pedestrians can work together on the same street, especially with a trolley or light rail. It could be done without necessarily loosing the parking on Fayette, but Fayette would be the ideal Street that cuts through the neighborhood, crosses Queen ant the heart of Parker Grey in front of the old Carver movie Theater, and could really unite the Braddock and Parker Grey neighborhoods. It may not be as good as a through street fro bicycles, but maybe slowing down is what this neighborhood needs. Fayette has been used for cut through which is why one of the blocks is already designated fro neighborhood traffic only during rush hour. This also goes by Hopkins House which has a daycare which is a busy cornere during pick up and drop off times and the nice park at Queen and Fayette.

Sorry if you get this twice.

Are there any pedestrian or bicycle folks out there that lives in this community? I have been loosely following the planning meetings on the Braddock Road Metro Neighborhood and made it to one of the meetings tonight, Monday Nov 12. This is a big deal for setting the tone for the redevelopment of this whole are over the next 10-15 years. The city is really reaching out to get citizen input, must have been 75 people at this meeting. From my brief look see, the consultants, the city staff and the citizens want the area to be pedestrian and bike friendly. However, they could a few “expert” locals to chime in. So please try to make it to the next meeting and if you live in this area, give some first hand advice on what needs t be done. One suggestion that needs support is bicycle boulevards, say, for example, going the entire length of Fayette street north south, or Wythe Street going east west. Get rid of many of the stop signs along with other measures to expedite bikes while also calming the speed of cars.

Next meeting is in 2 weeks, Monday Nov 29 at Jefferson Houston School, 1501 Cameron St at ^pm

Hope you can make it.
