Can anyone fill in the blanks of the status of last year's request?
Also, I noticed on a 2/28/05 memo from Hartman to City Council- it appears that Cameron Station has asked Jim Moran for $750K to help repair this area under Van Dorn/I-395 to assist connecting Cameron Station and Tucker Elem School to the Nature Center west of I-395.
I checked w/ last year's Holmes Run Park Comm (HRPC) chair (Jeff Bernholz) to see if Cameron Station brought this request through the HRPC & Jeff said this was the first he's heard about the request for federal funds to improve this site. As the current HRPC chair, I'd appreciate any info anyone has on the status of this project, funding, etc.
Thanks.
Elizabeth
PS Yes, this email is approx a year old.

Thank you for referring the emails to me regarding the condition of the
trail. Please know that Andrew Mugler is exactly correct in that this
"trail" is actually a stormwater culvert (built decades ago) through which
a stream runs. The lighting within the tunnel is minimal and is constantly
broken by vandals. This tunnel needs a major redesign to be a safe,
attractive and a viable pedestrian/cyclist way. It was a candidate--for
inclusion in FY 04 but given the many competing projects/needs
citywide...this project could not be funded. However, several other
pedestrian and cyclist projects were funded such as the Eisenhower Trail
match through RPCA trail funds and in the FY 05 budget the Telegraph Rd.
pedestrian tunnel upgrades are funded.
In order to upgrade the existing I 395 Underpass, a capital project will be
requested this year through the normal budget process and will be
considered in the context of the other trail and citywide capital needs.
Staff has reviewed this tunnel and there really are no reasonable short
term benefits that are easily implemented as there exists a sidewalk
currently within the storm culvert. The alternatives --would involve major
excavation and re-tunneling to divert the stream and or elevate the walkway
within the culvert.
