Arlington #1 Walking City

ARLINGTON TOPS LIST OF "10 BEST U.S. WALKING CITIES" 

Beating out such walking "Meccas" as San Francisco, Portland (Oregon), Boston and New York City, Arlington was named the #1  walking city the U.S. by the ten thousand member American Podiatric Medical Association. 
Why? 
It was the high percentage of Arlingtonians who use public transportation and the even higher percentage who walk for exercise that made the difference, according to the APMA. 
"I hope this ringing endorsement of Arlington as a walkable community will inspire residents, commuters and visitors to get out and get moving," said County Board Chairman Jay Fisette on hearing the news. Mr. Fisette's priorities for 2005 include encouraging walking for enjoyment and to promote health.
