It was a crash & burn Rachael. The city got very few concessions but there's hope yet. Four of our councilors were at the Urban Land Institute's "Reality Check" exercise today down at the Ronald Reagan bldg. (Larry, did you make it? Dick Hobson was also there from Alexandria.)

The exercise was one of "envisioning" better growth & development. Maybe we can have a slam dunk presentation at the city council mtg to show that this development is all wrong for all the wrong reasons.

Rachael, can you explain more about how cutesy doesn't cut it?

Any thoughts about asking if the Open Space Committee, the Bike Walk Committee, can make a staff report? Or do we want to come up w/ our own report & submit it to City Council before it comes up on their docket in two weeks? We might be able to show how what they just learned at the Reality Check can start right here, right now. Thoughts?

Eliz.

PS Regarding the Foxchase effort. The item didn't hit until 10:15 pm? Not sure when but it didn't end until 12:30 am. I was the next to last speaker (#13) & by the time I got up there I was so tired I was a babbling idiot.

The staff report had two showers/lockers for bikers & WRIT said, maybe just the lockers, then agreed to one shower. As a woman, I say this smacks of lack of equality & they need to put in two showers. I had such a data dump Monday morning w/ the planner (Jeff Farner) that I didn't go home & read the staff rpt, so apologies for not knowing how many bike racks & the fact that showers were included in the staff report.

Thank you both for all this info. I will not be at the meeting tonite but one comment that I'd love someone to make:
A new building and fancy awnings do not an urban village make.

Hope it goes well.
