TRAGIC DEATHS OF CYCLISTS IN ARIZONA, COLORADO AND TEXAS;
TRIAL IN ROAD RAGE DEATH A YEAR AGO OF SAN FRANCISCO CYCLIST
On October 18 in Continental Ranch, AZ, cyclist Margaret Gottlieb was
struck and killed by a driver later booked into the Pima County Jail on
manslaughter, aggravated assault and DUI charges. The driver was being
held in lieu of $175,000 bond. Ms. Gottlieb was bicycling with her
boyfriend League Cycling Instructor David Glasgow when she was struck by
a
four-door sedan.

On October 23 near Boulder, CO, cyclist Chris Ethridge died when he was
hit by an elderly woman. The Daily Camera, a Boulder newspaper, reported
that the woman, "told police she hit the cyclist, but said she didn't
feel
she had to stop to help him. When told the biker had died, she asked why
she was being detained, police said." Ethridge, 31, was the co-owner of
Great Adventure Sports in Breckenridge. The day before, bicycle courier
Steve Ingram was critically injured in a hit and run in Denver. He
remains
in a coma in Denver General Hospital. A benefit was recently held to
help
defray medical costs. For more information on the tragic incidents in
Colorado, visit http://www.bicyclecolo.org.

Jim Kerr, a longtime member of the Plano (Texas) Bicycle Association was
struck and killed by a car yesterday evening (November 8). Details of
the
accident are still under investigation, but he was laying on the road
surface when a car struck him. It is
not clear at this time what caused him to be on the road, whether he had
been hit by another car, or had fallen off for some other reason.
Information may be posted on http://www.biketexas.org.

The misdemeanor criminal trial for the truck driver who hit and killed
bicyclist Chris Robertson in San Francisco nearly a year ago (on
November
17) began November 5. Last April, all felony charges were dropped
against
Rueben Espinosa, the driver of the truck, and he was released from
prison
on a $10,000 bond. Please visit http://www.sfbike.org or

efforts
of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition in the pursuit of justice for
Chris
Robertson.

The Board of Directors, the members, and the staff of the League extend
their deepest sympathies to Margaret Gottlieb's family, David Glasgow,
and
their friends, and to the family and friends of Chris Ethridge, Jim Kerr
and Chris Robertson.
