              VIRGINIA BRIEFS    
              Hiking trail to be upgraded 
                   Virginia Gov. James S. Gilmore has awarded $136,800 to
the Northern
              Virginia Regional Park Authority to resurface and widen 1 1/2
miles of hiking trail
              in Washington & Old Dominion Park and $21,900 to Leesylvania
State Park to
              upgrade the Bushey Point trail, trailhead kiosk and
interpretive facilities. 
                  The funds are part of nearly $1 million allocated under
the state's Virginia
              Recreational Trails grant program to improve hiking trailing
in the state.
