Alexandria Hosts Walkable Communities Workshop

The Alexandria Transportation and Environmental Services and Parks and Recreation Departments are co-hosting a Walkable Community Workshop on May 3 from 1 to 5 pm about the 'Landmark Area' defined by Van Dorn St., Reynolds St., and Edsall Rd. The workshop is one of a series of workshops sponsored by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments and the National Center for Bicycling and Walking to promote active living through community and street design.

The Walkable Community Workshop will identify real-world problems and hands-on solutions for each community. During the four-hour workshop, trainers will deliver a presentation on the elements of a walkable community and solutions to common issues. Participants will be lead on an interpretive walking tour (called a 'walkabout' or 'ped audit') of the study area. The instructors will be Peter Lagerwey of the City of Seattle and Gary McFadden of the National Center for Bicycling and Walking.
