SB 101 (Pedestrians), patroned by Senator Jeannemarie Devolites
(<jdevolites at aol.com>, <district34 at sov.state.va.us>, R-Fairfax County),
would amend and reenact §§ 46.2-923 and 46.2-924 of the Code of Virginia
to require drivers of vehicles (including bicyclists) to *stop* for
pedestrians crossing highways under certain circumstances.
This bill will also benefit bicyclists who are crossing highways as users
of shared-use paths. Unlike roadway bicyclists (who are legally drivers
of vehicles), bicyclists on paths and sidewalks, including the W&OD Trail,
are legally pedestrians with the same general rights and responsibilities.
