Transportation Commission working group

Arlington County has long had a Transportation Commission whose members
are appointed by the County Board.  Arlington also has separate Bicycle,
Pedestrian, and Transit Advisory Committees that advise the transportation
planning staff in the Department of Public Works.  Typically, each
advisory committee is informally represented by at least one member who
serves on the Transportation Commission.

I suggest that the Alexandria Bicycle Committee write the City Council to
request formal representation on the new Transportation Commission and to
recommend that at least one other seat on the Transportation Commission be
reserved for a knowledgeable and dedicated pedestrian advocate.  

As a separate matter, TES should designate a full-time bicycle and
pedestrian coordinator, who is an accomplished, year-round transportation
cyclist, among its staff.
