The Alexandria City Council is seeking applicants to fill the following
vacancies on City of Alexandria boards, commissions and committees. Council
will act on these vacancies at the September 25, 2001 City Council meeting.
All applicants must complete a Personal Data Record Form and return it to
the Office of Citizen Assistance no later than 5:00 p.m., Friday, September
14, 2001. Applications received after this deadline will not be forwarded to
City Council.  For further information about the vacancies or

Alexandria Park and Recreation Commission has two vacancies as follows: one
member from among the high school youth of the City due to the resignation
of Alex Rubenstein and one representative from Planning District III (West
of Quaker Lane) due to the resignation of Joanne Tomasello.

DESCRIPTION
  The Park and Recreation Commission advises City Council on all matters
relating to parkland, recreation, and culture; and participates in planning
recreational activities and services through its advice to Council and the
Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Activities. The Commission also
sponsors an awards program for service to the community. The Commission
meets on the third Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m. Approximately eight
hours per month are required of Commission members.

The commission is made up of three citizens for each planning district and
two
student representatives serving three year terms.
