Dear Alex BSC

There is a Citizen Group of concern trail advocates on the Fairfax County
Side of Eisenhower Valley discussing trail access. Their discussion fits
with an earlier discussions about the Telegraph and Rt 1 Interchange
upgrades. I will forward the earlier note as a follow on email.

Kevin:

Thank you for your response. We appreciate your interest and assistance
with our planning.

We are having a "Trail Information Gathering Meeting" Monday, July 23 at the
Huntington Community Center, Liberty St. at 7:00 pm. The Center is on the
alley off of Liberty. There is a small parking lot beside the Center.

To find Liberty, from Huntington Ave., turn north at the Farrington stop
light, follow Farrington around a curve toward the yellow condominiums, turn
left onto Liberty and quickly turn right onto the alley and the Center. Do
not pass the north side of the condominiums, or you have gone too far. The
alley is one-way, Liberty is the only auto access to the Center.

Sincerely, Ruth Poole

Ruth,

I would be happy to meet with you one evening next week and look at the
routes that you have in mind and compare it with the Comprehensive plan and
the existing trails in the area. I have to admit ignorance about the plans
for the crossings of the Wilson Bridge. We can figure that out though.

Richard Hartman and I met you when you spoke to the Mt Vernon Transportation
Committee on Fairfax's plans for trails. At that time you were very
gracious with your time and gave Mr. Hartman and me some suggestions getting
a trail built. Your suggestion was getting contractors to build the trail
while their project was being built. The Huntington Association is very
interested in following your uggestions while LCORE and CARR projects are
being planned. Our time is drawing nigh and we need to get our act
together. Ray Novitske is the Association's Trail Chairman. Your name was
given by Ahmad Rayyan and we would appreciate any information getting plans,
etc. together. Please note Ray's original message below. Our goal is to
provide a multi-use trail for residents to bike or walk to Old Town. The
trail project is to include all residents living on the south side of
Cameron Run in the Huntington area. This will include the 13 floor
apartment complex and 44 townhouses planned on the parking area across from
Huntington Metro, all individuals interested in biking or walking who are in
the Riverside Apartments, Huntington Creek, Berkshire, Huntington Court, and
Huntington condos and other areas interested in safely getting across
Cameron Run to Alexandria. The trail will go from Telegraph Rd along
Cameron Run to join Washington Parkway trails. The Huntington Community
Association is currently deliberating with the construction firms for
recreation money to be obligated for building the trail. We will appreciate
your suggestions/pointers getting this project to the county's
planning-design committee, dollar amount construction companies legally
obligated and whatever other steps required to make the trail a reality.

If you are interested, I shall be happy to forward Mr. Hartman's information
so you know what we have collected. I am interested if you have a suggestion
on how we can explain the connection of Huntington's wetlands to the Potomac
Heritage National Trails project.

Thank you, Ruth Poole

Building on the information Ruth and Richard have already obtained, I have
contacted the bridge people (talked to Norine Walker) and have requested
information on the planned pedestrian connections along Rt 1 and Telegraph
Road over the Beltway. I was told to expect a return call within a day.

I think that another first step is to find out exactly what the bridge
construction people are planning: size, shape, location, terminus of their
path. With this, we can then develop some more definitive ideas of what our
own path can be to present to the various people and groups Richard and Ruth
have identified.

I will keep everyone informed and hope to maybe we can all meet next week,
along with anyone else, who would like to band together to coordinate our
efforts.
Ray Novitske
