Alexandria is studying open space options that will lead to an Open Space
Master Plan for the city.
The Open Space Summit program includes:
-Greetings from Mayor Kerry Donley
-Keynote address by Peter Harnik, an expert on urban open space and the
President of the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA)
-Consultant Rhodeside & Harwell study findings
-Small Group Discussions and presentation of group plans
Now is your opportunity to speak up for multi-use paths as an important part
of the city's open space plan. Multi-use
trails, paths, and greenways are primary uses of open space. Improvements
in our trail network can greatly improve the livability of Alexandria by
encouraging people to bicycle or walk to work, or to school, or to the
store, or just to a friend's house for a visit.
In the earlier citizen forums, there was very little citizen input on paths.
Cyclists need to be heard, so please try to attend the Summit and speak up
for paths.
Or send an e-mail to the Director of the City's Parks and Recreation
Department
