1. Alexandria Bicycle Round-up
Last year the city changed its ordinance so that the police can transfer
unclaimed bikes to a non-profit organization who will fix them up to give to
disadvantaged kids. The Alexandria Be Safe Coalition, the Mid-Atlantic
Off-Road Enthusiasts, the Alexandria Bicycle Committee, Spokes and other
groups are partnering this year to make this happen and we can always use
help.
*Saturday, May 19 from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon at the Police Department on
Mill Road, MORE will leading the effort to fix-up 30 bikes. MORE and the
police have found 30 bikes in pretty good shape and most of the work will
involve cleaning, lubrication and some tire changing. Bring your tools and
bike stand. Refreshments are planned.
    * Saturday, June 2 from 9:00 am to 11:30 am the Police will be giving
safe bicycle instruction to 30 kids before they get their bikes. Help is
needed with instruction, helmet fitting, and other support.
Contact me if you have any questions, or just show up to help out.
Thanks

2. Earth Day National Trails Day Bike Ride
On June 2 Chan Mohney will led one of his famous history/archeological rides
for about 11 miles around Alexandria. You not only get a flat bike ride in,
Chan will tell you the history of 6 different sites. Meet at St. Elmos on
Mt Vernon Avenue. Come early for coffee and socializing. The ride will
leave promptly at 9:00 am and be over no later than 12:00 noon. Chan could
use some help leading and sweeping.

3. Earth Day Rodeo
On June 2 from 1:00 to 3:00 at Four Mile Park, the Optimist Club with help
from the Bike Committee and others will conduct a Bike Rodeo for kids. We
could use your help. More information will be posted later.
