Received this note---
Thank you for your interest in Metro's Bike-on-Rail program. As you may
know, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Board
Operations Committee met the morning of March 22 to discuss proposed
changes to the Bike-on-Rail program. We think that you will be pleased
with the changes that were made, which include expanded hours and capacity
for bicycles.
>
>These changes, however, have only been approved for a trial period of six
months from May 29 through the end of November. During this time we will
closely monitor the impact that the enhancements have on the system and
other riders:
New Bike-on-Rail Guidelines effective May 29, 2001:
The only restricted hours are 7 - 10 a.m. & 4 - 7 p.m. weekdays. Bikes are
allowed on all day during weekends and holidays. Please note, however,
that bikes will be prohibited on some holidays and special events that draw
large crowds, such as the 4th of July.
Two bicycles allowed per railcar on weekdays and four per railcar on
weekends and holidays. Only use the first and last doors of each car,
because the middle doors must be kept clear in the event of an emergency.
If there is an emergency, you should place your bike on one of the seats
and leave it on the train.
Only regular bicycles are permitted (maximum size 80" long, 48" high and
22" side). No tricycles or training wheels are allowed.
Use the elevator at all times. Do not take bicycles on escalators. Avoid
blocking doorways and aisles. Yield to other passengers.
Do not ride bicycles in stations, on platforms or trains. Keep both wheels
on the ground and the kickstand up. Maintain control of your bicycle.
If you are under 16 years of age, you must be accompanied by an adult.
