Kirk has agreed to float a request that multi-use paths be included in the
city's snow removal policy. He needs to know what the list of path
priorities is so he can cost it out to put in a budget request for next
year. At present,
paths are not cleared. For the Parks Department, first priority is
recreation centers, city buildings, public side walks that front the parks,
public sidewalks that are on overpasses or next to city owned property. In
the event of a major snow storm, parks crews are pulled into street/road
duty and parks areas take second priority. Please give me your comments on
the
following proposed priorities. Remember that sidepaths that border on
private property are the responsibility of the landowner, such as Episcopal
School along Braddock Road. I have tried to include pedestrian usage is
setting priorities. Distances are approximate:

1. Holmes Run between Ripley and Eisenhower, including Pickett St. and Ben
Brenman
bridges: 1.7 miles

2. Four Mile Run path and spur between Mt. Vernon and U.S.Rt. 1: 0.8 miles

3. Jamieson connector path: 0.2 miles

3. Mt Vernon path from Pendelton to NPS property at north end of town: 0.5+
miles (Does NPS remove snow from its portion of the path?)

4. Metro connector path between Braddock and Cameron: 0.5 miles

5. Mt Vernon path through Jones Point: 0.5 miles

6. Wilkes St. Tunnel: 0.2 miles

7. Eisenhower path between Holmes Run and Stovall: 1.7 miles

8. Holmes Run path from Ripley to Chambliss and Chambliss path to Chambliss
Park: 1.1 miles
