Dear Friend of Virginia Bicycling,

I'm writing to invite you to VBF's annual planning retreat on the March
31-April 1 weekend. Please forward this announcement as you deem
appropriate. We welcome anyone concerned with making Virginia more
hospitable for bicycling and walking. Our informal planning and
networking meeting will be held in rural Louisa County just before the
April 1-3 Virginia Bike Walk Conference in Charlottesville. Thanks,

Allen Muchnick, board member
Virginia Bicycling Federation

The Virginia Bicycling Federation (http://vabike.org/ (or
http://cyberider.us.net/vbf/) will host its annual strategic planning
retreat for Virginia cycling advocates on Saturday, March 31, and Sunday,
April 1, 2001 at Sophia House, a rural conference center in Louisa County
(between Richmond and Charlottesville).

The retreat will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday and conclude at noon on
Sunday. Attendees may arrive as early as Friday evening. On Saturday
afternoon, participants will break for a bike trip in the surrounding
countryside, so plan to bring your bike along!

We will discuss the state legislative actions and agency practice changes
needed to make Virginia more attractive and safer for bicycling as well as
local cycling issues within Virginia on a region-by-region basis.

Advocates pressing for particular improvements can secure valuable
guidance from attendees who have already fought similar battles. The
agenda is not finalized, and those attending are encouraged to propose
topics.

The cost of the retreat is $10/night for lodging plus a supplemental charge

for food. Those visiting only during the day will pay $5 plus a food
supplement charge. We will have breakfast and lunch on site both days.
Dinner Saturday will be either at the facility or in a nearby town, as the
participants decide.

Preregistration is requested. Reserve a spot by contacting VBF by email at

vabikefed at erols.com. Get additional information and propose agenda topics
through that address.

Information on Sophia House, including driving directions, is available on
line at http://www.sophiahouse.org/ .
