I. The Wakefield-Tarleton Citizen's Association voted last night to support
the bike path in Tarleton Park along the southern route in the direction of
the tot lot and to include an asphalt surface and curb cut at Gordon. Thanks
to Chan and Jim for doing such a good job explaining the path at previous
Association meetings. Elizabeth Wright will e-mail a letter of support to
Sandra with a copy to the committee. Suzanne and Tricia will put stakes in
along a proposed route so folks can see and comment on the location for sure
and start the design work process.
2. Suzanne, Tricia, and I tromped through the snow today to scout out the
Raleigh route. They both like the route that Chan and Connie West have laid
out along the worn path. Hey, all those people walking through there know
the best way. It has a very good grade, but a tree or two may need to come
out. There would need to be a little grading at the south end for ADA, but
it does not appear to be a big problem. At the bottom of this grade, we may
want to have the path split in a "Y" to make it more convenient to go either
way on the Holmes Run Path. This route is much preferred to our original
route: shorter so it cheaper, less grade so it is more suitable for walkers
and ADA compliance, and no apparent water run-off problems that could cause
erosion. The idea of a path on the Fox Chase side of the creek is not good
because of grades, isolation, and much more expensive. A path closer to the
steam would be subject to more run-off into the stream and erosion to the
path. We could not precisely determine the property line of the private
land parcel. The current path would be very close, but the path could
easily be moved slightly to the west with the clearing of some brambles.
Next step is to get the support of the Holmes Run Association.
3. Suzanne met with the contractor on Jamieson and the contractor has
agreed to move up his schedule for installing the bridge railing so that the
City can finish paving and then open the temporary bike trail while the
retaining wall on the southwest embankment is constructed. She will let us
know the schedule soon.
