At the BAC [Arlington Bike Adv. Cmt.] meeting last Monday, Joy expressed
interest in the Mid-Atlantic
greenways conference, September 15-19 2001, in Crystal City. The program
committee that is planning the conference meets next Wednesday morning,
and I plan to attend. The Crystal Gateway Marriott, where the conference
will be held, is located on the east side of S. Eads St (one block west of
US-1) just south of 15th St S. in Crystal City.
The Host Committee that is planning the pre-conference weekend (mainly
Sunday, 9/16) excursions, mobile workshops, and other local activities
(e.g., early morning exercise, social events) will next meet in March, due
partly to Doug Pickford's paternity leave. It is not too early, however,
to solidify our proposals for excursions and mobile workshops involving
Arlington trails.
I intend to organize a one-day bike excursion on 9/16/01 to White's Ferry
and back, going out via DC and MD and returning via the W&OD and other
Arlington trails. I'm also up for organizing a bike tour of the Arlington
trails loop during the week. Volunteer tour leaders will get free
admission to at least part of the conference. Steve Temmermand
(703-228-7748) of Arlington Parks Recreation and Community Resources has
been active in conference planning.
If you want more info, let me know. I've got lots.
Allen
