Subject: Skate Legal Update
I just got off the Phone with Suzette Denslow, the Arlington County
lobbyist, who was helping introduce legislation that will allow Arlington to
be able to legalize In-Line skating on the streets in Arlington. (To share
the same rights and responsibilities as cyclist)
She has informed me that the bill which they have proposed passed
unanimously in the House Transportation sub-committee this morning.
Whoo Hoo - first hurtle. Because it was a unanimous vote it will now go into
a pile of bills that will be suggested as "to be passed". The safety info
that was provided by Kalinda Mathis with the IISA was instrumental in
proving that the streets are a safe place to skate. Thanks Kalinda, Scott
Ossberg, and Bob Brubaker. The info was vital to her arguements.
In any case - the bill will head over to the VA senate - where the whole
process starts over on that side.
(I'm just a Bill . . .sittin' on VA state Capitol Hill . . .School House
rock)
So - We have gotten over the first hurtle. However this is a long race and
many places where we can be tripped up. I am still on a list of speakers who
may be asked to testify in front of VA Senate, and will do so if asked.
Don't hold you breath but let's enjoy this just a bit.

(Emily - can I have that Title?)
