St Michaels Weekend: April 20-22, 2001
By Ed Brandt
Come join us for a wonderful weekend of cycling on Maryland's
Eastern Shore. The events this year center at the St.
Michael's Motor Inn (Best Western) in St. Michael's.
Springtime riding on the eastern shore is as good as it gets.
Enjoy the almost flat terrain, the beautiful water views of
St. Michael's, Oxford, Tilghman Island, Blackwater Refuge,
Chesapeake Bay,Miles River, Tred Avon River, the ever
beautiful Tunis Mills, and the nearby 400-year-old Wye Oak
tree.
For those so inclined Sunday's bike ride will feature rides
in unique South Dorchester County starting at the "Blackwater
Wildlife Refuge". After cycling along quiet, picturesque,
country roads, enjoy a deliciousdinner Saturday nite at
Higgins "charming, rustic" Crabhouse", a brief walk from the
St. Michael's Inn. A social hour that includes beverages,
beer, wine, etc., will be followed by the featured crabcake
dinnerwith alternative choices of vegetarian and chicken
entrees. We have the whole Crabhouse (including the Bar) to
ourselves for the nite. At dinner continue to relax and
converse with fellow cyclists sharing some of the many
highlights of your day.
Join us Friday night for the traditional ice cream social at
the St. Michael's Best Western Motor Inn. The price also
includes Saturday and Sunday Breakfast at the Inn including
your choice of bagels and condiments. "On the Road" energy
snacks to carry on your bike will be provided.
For new members and cyclists there will be a Friday nite
introductory meeting after the ice cream social to provide
advice on fun places to ride andto signup for group rides.
Maintenance tips, such as fixing flats and group riding
etiquette are available.
Applications and accommodations are processed in the order
they are received. Cancellations are accepted if a
replacement can be drawn from the waiting list. Absolutely no
refunds after Friday April 6, 2001, and all cancellations are
subject to a $10 administrative charge. Single supplement is
the additional charge for the full amount of the room.
