Item 0- Kirk reported that the revised bike maps should go to the printer's
tomorrow.
1) We approved the minutes from the October meeting
2) There is nothing to add to the email report from the city council
Jones point Walk about.
We needed to agree on an official BSC position about the bike route through
Jones Point. First Bruce and Ruth provided an quick history of the project
with respect to bicycles movement. We concluded that we support the
path through the woods. We do not see a better option that accommodates
bikes. We expect a waterfront promenade to be more congested than
Gravelly point on the Mt. Vernon Trail with cross traffic. City council
will take up the issue on Nov. 18, it is item 12 on the docket.
3) There is no Stakeholder panel report on Telegraph Road interchange. The
design still has no access to Duke St. Committee members should e-mail
the Wilson bridge design center about this or supply written comments before
Nov. 24 2000. The e-mail address is PCC at wwbgec.com or hearing at wwbgec.com.
We could also reiterate Bob Brubecker's suggestions about pedestrian access
along US 1 into Eisenhower valley.
4) It looks like the Van Dorn improvement will consist of two lanes an 11
foot
wide inner lane and a 15 ft. wide shared outer lane. There are three
striping
options a four foot or three foot bike lane or no bike lane. The no bike
lane
may be unacceptable since a bike lane tends to reinforce our rights.
5) The bike lanes on Braddock Rd. at the Metro station are too narrow. The
city knows this and will fix it after it plans correcting the other
VDOT improvement travesties.
6) Marion is working on minor changes to the TEA21 grant. We need to
include
archeological and natural history informational plaques. Other ideas are
to present it as a phased project. The city has no problem with pursuing
Michael's change order idea.
7) We have rough cost estimates for the 4 projects:
Tarleton- $64K
Chambliss- $51k
Raleigh- $102K
Abingdon- $45K
Design costs for all 4 projects $41K
Suzanne has suggested a 10foot wide path on the west side of Abingdon with
cross overs at the railroad tracks on the south and at the north where
the path goes downhill into park service land. We are concerned that
that entire area be treated as an integrated bike pedestrian movement issue
and not be put together in a piece meal fashion.
8) Jameison isn't finished. It has been 1 year since Michael first got fed
up with the city and started pushing this issue. Suzanne went over the
future plans for the street. She emphasized that now is the time for the
commitee to influence the design.
9)Suzanne put in an order for signs. Much of the work is done already.
We need to E-mail her about exactly where the Duke street signs are
that need to be removed.
10)Fred and Chan are going to be participating in the Dec 2 Talton Youth
ride.
June 2 is the date for the Bike rodeo and Earth Day ride. Spokes Etc. might
help out with the Bike Rodeo.
11) We will shift the days of our meetings to the third Tuesday of the
month.
12) Holiday Pot Luck is still scheduled for:
604 Melrose Street, Wed. Dec. 13 at 6:20 pm Rsvp 703-549-3264
13) The Wilkes Street tunnel needs to have broken glass removed
14) Suzanne reports that 350 cubic yards of rocks have been removed from
the Holmes run tunnels under Van Dorn and 395.
15) We should send e-mails of gratitude to Rich Baeir for the many
livability improvements that have been initiated during his benevolent
reign.
