Jones Point/Urban Deck

Dear BSCer's; I think slowly. Our discussion about the bike access through
Jones Point and getting on the bridge seemed to be always do one thing or
the other. Get on the bridge by a ramp or from the Urban deck. Have the
bike trail go through the woods or past the water. One good thing about Old
Town is that
back in 1749 people didn't think like that. The cars have many ways to get
on the bridge, the people should too. We should also be able to get past the
bridge and into old town by more than one route. With the old bridge I
sometimes use
Washington St., Royal St. Lee St. or the water route depending on what I'm
doing
and where I forgot to turn. I think we should extend that Old Town feeling
of having transportation options all the way to the south of the bridge.
What I find offensive about the Telegraph Road and US 1 interchange bike/ped
plans is that the cars get to go by direct routes and the people have to
detour. The people in wheel chairs for whom a detour is most difficult have
to detour the most while the people in cars who don't have to do much to
detour have it easiest. At least at Jones point, the beltway is up in the
air so it can be made porous. In the north-south direction we shouldn't
constrain the number of routes. As far as getting on the bridge, people in
the park who decide to walk or wheelchair over to Maryland's shore shouldn't
have to go back up to the Urban Deck while people coming from up at the
Masonic Temple shouldn't have to go all the way down to the water and then
back up just to get out on the bridge. We should try to get both access
points not just one or the other.
George
