I agree with Jim about Lee street, that's what I use if I'm trying to
get somewhere, if I'm in a big hurry to get from the Bellhaven to DC, I
just stay on Washington Street, but if I'm going to/from Old Town I cut
through
Lee street. If the path through the woods were an option I'd do that to
avoid the little hill on Lee street. If we just make the connector that runs
past the gardens a little smoother and maybe make a connector down to
where backyard boats was everything would work out. All of Old Town is a
bike/ped zone anyway.

A route connecting to Lee Street can be considered an alternate for the
path through the woods. Your comments about the design of the river front
path still apply.
A bigger problem is maintaining AASHTO standards for the path on the urban
deck.
