Subject: Upcoming Smithsonian Program and big sale on bikes...
The Smithsonian Institution's Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention
and Innovation, in cooperation with the Washington Area Bicyclist Association
(WABA) is sponsoring a multi-day & multi-event program in early May focusing on
the bicycle. This looks like it will be fascinating.
For more information, check out the Lemelson Center's website at
www.si.edu/lemelson. Once at their home page, go to "Calendar", then that takes
you to the calendar for "Public Programs". Under that, click on the month of
"May" and see all the scheduled events. There will be demos of antique
(high-wheelers and 'ordinaries'), as well as new, exotic bike designs.
Take the family or your significant other and have some fun !
Also, Bikes at Vienna (on Church Street in Vienna, across from the Clock Shop)
will be having a major sale on bikes this month, including models of the Vision
and BikeE recumbents. If you've not ridden one of these, demo rides are
available on the W&OD bike trail, which is just a block from the store. They
also carry Schwinn, Marin, and other quality brands of standard 'diamond frame'
bikes, plus tandems. There also are rentals for folks just wanting to spend the
day on a two-wheeler, plus 'Tag-a-Longs' so you can bring your youngster... For
directions, call Bikes at Vienna at (703) 938-8900.
