Holmes Run Bridge

Thank you for the heads up. I think Sandra should be aware of a few important points:
1. I'm sure there would be much less objection if the area was not left as a construction site as it has been for the past couple of months. If the trail on the east side of the bridge was restored, people could resume using the trail and the surrounding area.
2. Once the bridge is opened for traffic, the residents on the east side of Holmes Run will gain access to 2 new parks, a bike trail and a non-vehicular route to the new elementary school.
3. The bridge is part of a city approved plan and has been through an extensive review, public comment and approval process.
I truly believe that the vast majority of residents will appreciate the bridge, trail and park access if the city would actually complete the work without extensive periods of inactivity.
This is the issue I raised with Marion at the last bike committee meeting.

Heads up. The neighborhood to the east of Holmes Run is upset over
everything about the new bridge to Cameron Station. They have complained
that it is too big,
that it is too ugly, that it takes too much room, and that it is there at
all. Sandra Whitmore,
The Parks Director, is having to defend it against all these negative
onslaughts. This bridge supports non-motorized transportation and all
the benefits that brings with reduced traffic congestion and cleaner air.
The bridge is an important link for cyclists and walkers, especially those
in the west end neighborhoods and our new neighbors in Cameron Station.
People will love that bridge later when Duke St. traffic is so intense you
can't get out of local
neighborhoods in a car. If you have the opportunity, some words of support
to city council members would be useful. Del Pepper delpepper at aol.com
lives at 4600 Duke and is hearing mostly negative stuff,
and need to hear good stuff for some balance.
Thanks
Bruce
Michael,
You might want to alert your neighborhood, which I assume is in
favor of it.
