Passing on - I didn't see that BSC had received this yet.

Earth Day is shaping up to be a pretty big deal and we need help. Please help
WABA spread the word that we need volunteers to help on Earth Day at the bike
parking area (I'm calling it the WABA
bike station or valet parking). The Earth Day organizers also need help with
publicizing the event (see below).

We need about 36 volunteers on the day of in 3 - 3hr. shifts, starting at
9am. Anyone who can help can email or telephone us and we'll sign them up.

Thanks for helping us spread the word as widely as possible.

WABA phone number is 202-628-2500.

Subject: Earth Day Message From Denis Hayes, Bud Ris, and Paul Hansen

Announcement from: Denis Hayes, Bud Ris and Paul Hansen

TUESDAY, APRIL 4TH 5:30-6:30 PM EARTHDAY COUNTDOWN MEETING
Earth Day Headquarters
1776-G Street N.W. (entrance is on F Street bet. 17th & 18th)
Washington DC
202 408-ED2K

Earth Day is quickly approaching. The Washington D.C. Event on the Mall
will be the flagship event for all of the Earth Day events around the world.
The size of the crowd on the Mall will send a message to Congress, the media
and the world about how important the environment is to voters.

Tuesday, April 4th at 5:30 pm at Earth Day Headquarters we will have a
gathering of all organizations sponsoring Earth Day as well as local
environmentalists to share our plan for crowdbuilding during the final 2
weeks before Earth Day. We have 1,000,000 flyers and tens of thousands of
posters to distribute. We urge you to send at least 10-20 energetic
representatives from your organization (employees, interns,
volunteers, friends) to attend the 4/4 "Earth Day Countdown" meeting.

We need hundreds of volunteers to help spread the message and build the
crowd (2500 volunteers total). How? flyering metro stations, movie theatres
and monuments; postering main streets and freeway on-ramps; dropping off
flyers to school districts. The goal of the April 4th gathering will be to
have each person and group sign up for specific tasks and take posters and
flyers with them.

Please RSVP to Bo Iravedra 202 408-3325 or bo at earthday.net with the name of
your organization and the number of people you will bring by Monday April
3rd.
We'll have refreshments. Thanks for helping make Earth Day 2000 a success!
