*Washington Post story

Funny you should mention the route 7 bridge, this bridge is significantly
larger than one needed to connect Telegraph with Eisenhower. Last fall I
was riding over it with Dianne Rowe who used to be the Fairfax trails
coordinator. She was talking about how there was a lot of resistance to
building it in the first place because it would be too ugly to fit in with
the surrounding
strip malls. She complained that it cost too much- about half a million.
She felt like the contractors had ripped off the tax payers. We were just
having a casual conversation while riding along so I wouldn't try to say her
cost number as exact. I remembered what she said
because it was half the Wilson Bridge Design Center's much more careful
estimate.

For what it's worth, I seem to recall the bridge over Rt. 7 in Falls Church
cost about $900K. I thought the quote in the POST was really low for the
two bridges. Nancy

There has to be something wrong with this story, remember the Wilson Bridge
people said a single ramp from Telegraph Rd. to Eisenhower Ave. would cost
over
one million dollars and "break the budget". If a single ramp costs over a
million
then there is no way those two bridges with stone facing could possibly cost

only $1.1 million. Somethings fishy.
